Using our meals
How do I prepare a meal?
Open the pouch, add hot water (roughly 100ml), give it a stir, and leave it to sit for 5–8 minutes. That's it. The meal rehydrates back to its original texture; no microwave, no hob, no extra bowls needed. Always check the temperature before serving.
What kind of water do I need?
Hot water from a kettle works perfectly. You don't need boiling water: around 70–80°C is ideal. A thermos flask keeps water at the right temperature for hours, which makes these meals brilliant for days out, travel, and long journeys where a kettle isn't available.
Can I use it straight from the pouch?
Yes — your toddler can eat directly from the pouch once it's cooled to a safe temperature, which makes washing up almost non-existent. You can also tip it into a bowl if you prefer.
Can I prepare it in advance?
We recommend preparing and serving within 30 minutes for the best texture and food safety. They're not designed to be made the night before, but the prep is so quick that advance preparation rarely feels necessary.
What's the right portion size for my toddler?
Each pouch is designed as a main meal for a toddler aged 10 months and above. Every child is different, so your toddler may want a little more or a little less follow their lead and supplement with finger foods as you would with any meal.
Freeze Drying
What actually is freeze-dried food?
We cook our meals fresh, then remove the moisture using a low-temperature freeze-drying process. This locks in the nutrients, flavours, and textures of the original meal — so when you add hot water, you get real food back, not a reconstituted mush. It's the same technology used by mountaineers and the military, now made for your toddler's lunchbox.
Is freeze-dried food safe for toddlers?
Yes. Freeze-drying uses no heat in the drying process, which means it preserves nutrients without needing artificial preservatives, additives, or added salt. All our meals are developed specifically for toddlers aged 10 months and above, and produced in facilities that prioritise food safety.
How does freeze-drying compare to a jar or pouch?
Traditional jars and pouches are heated at high temperatures to stay shelf-stable, which degrades nutrients and often results in a smooth, puréed texture. Freeze-drying is gentler, it keeps the structure of the food intact, so our meals have proper textures (chunky veg, whole grains) rather than blended mush.
Does freeze-drying affect the nutritional value?
Freeze-drying actually retains more nutrients than high-heat processing. Vitamins and minerals that would otherwise be destroyed by cooking or canning are preserved through the process - so what goes into the pouch is genuinely close to a freshly cooked meal.
Ingredients & Nutrition
What ingredients do you use?
Real ones. We source our ingredients as locally as possible within the UK and where seasonality means we go further afield, we never go beyond the EU. There are no fillers, no refined sugars, no artificial additives, and no added salt. What you see on the label is exactly what's inside.
Are the meals high in sugar or salt?
No. Our meals are specifically formulated to be low in sugar and salt, in line with NHS guidelines for toddlers. We don't use flavour enhancers or hidden sweeteners to make the meals more palatable — the flavour comes from real ingredients.
Do the meals contain allergens?
Some meals contain common allergens including gluten and dairy. All allergens are clearly highlighted on each pack and on the individual product pages. If your toddler has a known allergy or intolerance, please check the full ingredients list before purchasing. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
Are the meals nutritionally complete?
Each meal is designed as a balanced main not a snack. Every pouch contains a source of protein, complex carbohydrates, fibre, and vegetables. We'd always recommend serving alongside water and complementary foods (fruit, dairy, healthy fats) as part of a varied diet.
Are your meals organic?
Not certified organic, but we prioritise quality sourcing above all else. Our ingredients are selected for freshness and nutritional value, sourced from UK and EU suppliers, and produced in BRC-accredited facilities. We're founding members of the Kids Food & Drink Collective (KFDC), a group of brands committed to raising standards in children's food.
On the Go
Do I need to refrigerate the pouches?
No. Our meals are shelf-stable for up to 18 months and don't need refrigeration before or after purchase. That's the whole point. They're designed to be the thing in your bag that's always there, whether you're at a soft play café, on a plane, or halfway up a hillside.
What's the best way to use them when travelling?
A thermos flask is your best friend. Fill it with hot water before you leave the house and it'll stay hot for hours — more than long enough to prepare a meal wherever you are. The pouches themselves are lightweight and take up minimal space in a bag, buggy basket, or car boot.
Can I use them on a plane?
Yes. The pouches are within standard hand luggage size limits and comply with airline regulations for dry food. Ask cabin crew for hot water as most are happy to help. They're also great for hotel rooms, holiday apartments, and anywhere your toddler's usual routine goes out of the window.
Are they good for camping or hiking?
Ideal. They were partly inspired by military field rations - genuinely portable, lightweight, no fridge, no prep. If you have a camping stove or a thermos, you have everything you need to serve a proper meal outdoors.
What if my toddler rejects it?
It happens - toddlers are famously unpredictable. If the first meal doesn't land, try a different flavour or try again on another day. Our Taste & Try bundle is a good starting point for first-timers or picky eaters: three different meals to find their favourite before committing to a bigger bundle.
